Frequently Asked Questions
Can anyone skate?
We at BSA believe that where there is a will to skate, there is a way to skate. This being said, if the student has any physical or cognitive limitations, or is being treated for any medical conditions, you will need to clear this with your medical provider prior to booking a lesson.
At what age should my child begin lessons?
Since children have unique and varying attention spans, we recommend starting lessons at five years of age. However, we have coached younger children but minimum lesson time available is 30 minutes.
Do you teach adults to skate?
Absolutely! In fact, we strongly encourage it for parents of skate students! Those adults that are just looking to get on a board and skate safely are always welcome to book a session with Coach Gabe. We strongly encourage adults to wear protective equipment.
Are scholarships available?
Absolutely! We believe that anyone, regardless of their socio-economic status, should be able to take skateboard lessons and to procure proper skate equipment. We are in the current phase of developing sponsorships for kids who want to skate. If you would like to apply for a scholarship, please contact us at bearingssk8info@gmail.com .
What is Booger Tour™?
Booger Tour™ is an action-packed day camp created by Coach Gabe for his Intermediate and Advanced students to take their skate skills to the next level! Students will learn to utilize their skate skills by practicing drills, footwork, etc., until mastery of a particular skill is achieved. Each camp is held at a different skatepark in Central Oregon.
What are Adventure Fridays™?
Adventure Fridays™ are a full day 9:00-5:00 skateboard camp for Intermediate and Advanced students, held every Friday during the summer. Students will visit various Oregon Skateparks, (Eugene, Klamath Falls, Aumsville, Hood River, Lebanon, etc.). During extremely hot weather, we may visit various Central Oregon swim spots! Adventure Friday Camp locations will be discussed during weekly Booger Tours™ and announced every Thursday. Book your Adventure Friday™ here.
Can I sign up weekly for Booger Tour™? How do Drop-In Days work?
Yes! Please keep in mind that seating is limited in our Booger Tour™ van so when you buy a seat for the tour, it is reserved only for the day specified and cannot be transferred to a different day. Example: If you book every Tuesday and Thursday per week throughout the summer, we cannot make up or switch days for another week. We completely understand that things come up, schedules change, etc., so we encourage using Drop-In Days if your student requires additional days. Drop-In Days are subject to availability, and you must sign up at least 2 hours (7:00am) before Booger Tour™ begins that day. If there is not a time option on our schedule, please call us to see if there is a seat available. Please do not drop off your child until you are sure there is a seat :)
How can I prepare my child for Booger Tour™?
Booger Tour™ Readiness will be a camp for Beginning students held during Spring Break 2025 (stay tuned!). We also highly recommend beginning-level students to have at least four private lessons with Coach Gabe. During those lessons, your student will learn the basics of skateboard safety to gain the confidence required for attempting the new tricks and footwork during Booger Tour™.
Do you offer discounts for multiple children?
Yes! Each additional child receives a discounted rate when attending a private lesson together. Please text for multiple children who wish to attend Booger Tour™.
What equipment does my child need?
A student under 16 requires a helmet in accordance with Oregon State Law. If a student receives a ticket for failure to wear a helmet, Bearings is not responsible for paying any resulting fines. Bearings coaches require students to wear protective equipment during ALL lessons, drills, Booger Tour™, etc. Please make sure your child brings a helmet, water bottle, sack lunch, sunscreen, towel, (and of course their SKATEBOARD!) for all Booger Tour/Adventure Fridays.
Why does Bearings require protective equipment?
Bearings coaches encourage a full send! Students learning new techniques typically hold back if they are not wearing protective equipment and therefore usually do not master the technique. BSA does not receive incentive from any skateboard company to promote or sell specific boards or equipment. However, for the safety and success of the student we strongly recommend buying a board and protective gear from a local, well-known board company. Tactics in Bend, OR is one of our favorites!
Why does Bearings have a Code of Conduct?
Skateboarding has long carried a stigma and we at BSA want to set an example of behavior for sportsmanship, fellowship, community outreach and teachability. Our coaches adhere to the highest standards of leadership and accountability.
